What we can price up front, and what we can’t
Service work has fixed published prices and they are all listed below. Installed systems do not, and we would rather say so than invent a number you would find out was wrong.
A softener price depends on the grain capacity your household actually needs, whether the house already has a plumbing loop, where the unit can physically go, and how far it sits from a drain and a power outlet. Those four things vary enough between two houses on the same street to move the figure substantially.
Every "from $X" number you see advertised for this category is either the smallest unit nobody buys or an installation-excluded equipment price. The onsite test and quote are free, take under an hour, and produce a real number for your house.

Questions about cost
How much does a water softener cost installed?
It is quoted after a site visit, and we will not publish a number we cannot stand behind. Installed cost depends on the grain capacity your household needs, whether there is an existing loop, where the unit has to go, and whether drain and power are already close. The test and the quote are free and there is no obligation at the end of them.
What does a softener cost to run once it is installed?
Salt, plus scheduled service. The installer charges $200 for maintenance service every five years, and resin replacement runs $500 to $800 every fifteen to twenty years. The first year of onsite service is included. Those are their published figures.
Does a water softener actually pay for itself?
On hard enough water it can. The Water Quality Research Foundation study found that on sufficiently hard inlet water a softener can recover its cost in as little as a year on a tankless water heater installation, and peer-reviewed life-cycle research found that reducing limescale extends the expected lifespan of washers, dishwashers, and other hot-water appliances. Whether it pays back for you depends on your hardness and what equipment you are protecting, which is exactly what the free test establishes.
